Hi,
First of all, if you haven’t done so yet, a little personnal presentation would be nice. There is a dedicated topic in the “blabla” section, the topic is called the “trombinoscope”. This is where you tell us who you are, what hobbies you have, and if you add a picture of yourself, it’ll be perfect!
This welcoming message also gives you the dos and don’ts on this forum. It will provide you with all the pertinent information regarding the different topics already accessible on the forum, so as to not waste your time.

In case you have already browsed through the sections of the forum open to you, you will have noticed that many here are amateur luthiers whose amateurishness tends to be limited to the fact that they don’t make money from it. However, they do conceive, create and build axes that are definitely up to par (if not better) with other instruments in music shop windows. (I can afford to be a bit immodest about it, since I am not myself at that level yet) Nonetheless you will have noticed that nobody here has developed an attitude about it or look down on other’s projects…That is definitely not our team spirit.

You may also have noticed that cheerfulness is a must here and that we sometimes slip up a bit and go totally astray on some topics…A good fit of laughter is necessary from time to time!!! However, for everyone’s benefit, it is absolutely necessary to limit the amount of free posts and make sure the contents are not only appropriate, but that they don’t disrupt completely the topic. All within reason..

Along these lines, any aggressive, rude, violent, disrespectful, mean, discriminatory or sectarious post will not be tolerated. Although arguments may on occasion flare up a bit, any unfriendly or disrespectful behaviour will be immediately moderated and sanctioned.

The objective of the forum is to gather and share the know-how and the resources everyone has in store so that all members may have the opportunity to build his/her dream guitar in the best conditions and with the best result possible. You will find that this forum is a fantastic source of inspiration and energy, which has and does regularly incite individuals to start projects they would have never thought of being able to achieve even a few days earlier..

In other words, we’re all here to help you the best we can, and you will soon find yourself making an instrument that will make you the proudest person in the world (after me, that is!!) ;)

However, you must know and respect the basic rules of thumb of this forum. Golden rule number one: help yourself and god will help you..
What I mean here, is that we will help but you must do the research first…You will have a million questions coming up as you get along in your project, however it is more than likely that they have already been addressed and accessible to you provided you use the search function of the forum. After having read what is already available, if you need any clarification, we’ll be glad to help you…

DETAILED NOTICE ON HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF THE FORUM:
Get yourself a note book, a pen, and a box of tissues…

1/ FAQ section ===> read all your content, everything there is useful
2/ The following sections : MEMBERS’ GALLERY ("GALLERIE DES MEMBRES"), UNDERGOING PROJECTS ("PROJETS EN COURS"), PROJECTS IN PREPARATION ("ELABORATION DE PROJETS") ==> Select any instrument that in a way or another may have something pertaining to your project and read the entire topics, you will see which types of problems were encountered, how they were addressed and often what other options were possible. Reading topics concerning other instruments is very enlightening as well..

3/ “SEARCH” function (recherche) ==> Try to look up all and any questions you may have…
4/Paying a visit to the TUTORIALS section will help you get ideas…(provided you are a subscribed member)

The notebook and the pen are there only to take notes, the tissues to wipe you tears every time you land on some of our members’ exceptional creations or when bent in two laughing…(the latter especially when our member “Raoul” is involved, if you can’t find them, pm me I’ll give you the link to the most hilarious posts :D )

All of this to say that we will help you everytime you need it, but that we will not cut the work out for you, which is not what we call helping. Luthery is a very demanding art(work) that requires quite a bit of self involvement. In others words, what you put into it is what you get…

You will also realise that the most urgent thing to do is not to rush things…To think things through-in and out- before doing anything, which may seem obvious enough, but better not left unsaid. Another thing to remember is that it is far more worthwhile to pass off as a fool than botching your project because you didn’t dare ask a question that seemed a bit silly at first glance.

Once you’ve gone through these steps, all that will be left for you to do is make choices (wood, scale length, accessories, electronics, tools, methodology on and so forth) and draw up your plans…The best way not to make a mess or a big booboo on a fine and expensive piece of wood is to have everything planned beforehand. That involves drawing up a real scale plan, front and side views, so as to see what goes and what doesn’t.

What’s more all the searches/research you will be doing will surely give you plenty food for thoughts and enrich your project.

At this stage, if you encounter difficulties, no worries, there are plenty people here who will more than gladly give you a hand…The motto here being that any member going through the trouble should be able to build the instrument he’s dreaming of…

Last, but not least, I’d like to come back on the FAQ. Last year, we decided to update it. It took 6 months and scores of volunteers to complete this task. The entire forum (over 130 000 messages) has been reviewed and the most pertinent/interesting topics dug out, sorted and formatted. The new FAQ was put online on the 3rd of june 2007 (a date to be long remembered!) and it provides you with a permanent and efficient resource center that is updated and maintained daily by a team of 4 “FAQers” Not consulting this database before asking questions which have their solutions in the FAQ is a downright show of disrespect to the people and the work done on this section…Please check it before you ask…

On these good words, hoping they will incite you to build the instrument of your dreams (if you haven’t yet started it) I wish you the best…Keep it up!

En direct, passer par un traducteur automatique a tendance à rajouter du travail et bouffer plus de temps- Il me faut quelquefois 5 minutes pour me remettre de ma crise de fou rire provoquée par l'énormité ou l'ineptie totale que pond l'automate...
Mais surtout, tu te retrouves avec des constructions de phrase et des tournures qui sont souvent ambigues ou à la limite du contresens total, et pour corriger ça, c'est chaud, faut être bien concentré...

Ouais, OK, d'accord, mais tout de même ....

1/ j'ai déjà brabisé en français notre nouvel ami(e) Brésilien ( oui je sais elle est vraiment très nulle celle là, je m'en excuse tout de suite auprès de lui et de tout le peuple Brésilien que nous avons déjà assez humilié lors des dernières coupes du monde, ainsi qu'auprès de tout le forum, de ma mère et mon père qui n'ont vraiment pas mérité ça, et du WWF pour le cas où l'un d'entre vous, éclatant violemment de rire, aurait crevé les tympans d'un panda géant occupé à grignoter quelques feuilles d'Eucalyptus devant une retransmission de Sumo).

2/ Je vais devoir payer des droits internationaux maintenant pour faire protéger mondialement le sacro-saint message de la B.R.A.B. :?

D'un autre côté, il n'y aura pas besoin de modifier le sigle qui peut s'interpréter par "Brigade de Réception Amicale des Brésiliens"
